Two of GDance’s innovative dance films, ‘Feast’ and ‘Beyond the Surface’, have been selected for inclusion in an international four day dance film festival screening in San Francisco and Vienna in September 2013.

The San Francisco Dance Film Festival in partnership with world-renowned European media arts organisation IMZ—International Music + Media Centre is hosting the ‘2013 Dance Screen’ competition and conference. In addition to several major San Francisco premieres of feature-length films, the festival will once again present its Screendance Shorts programs, showcasing the best in short dance films from around the globe. ‘Feast’ and ‘Beyond the Surface’, both under 8 minutes long, will feature in the dance shorts program.

Dance Screen is celebrating its 25th anniversary. This is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious competition and festivals for dance films and this is the first time it has been presented outside Europe.

GDance produces films to bring inspiring inclusive productions and performance to mainstream audiences and to involve choreographers and artists facing disabling barriers in the creation of new work. To have these films chosen to be screened to such a wide and diverse audience both on the continent and on the other side of the globe is a wonderful achievement.

Whilst GDance are the producers, the success of these films is down to the talented film makers, directors, choreographers and dancers involved.

  • In the case of Feast -a portrayal of fluctuations in family relationships and the tensions and moments of harmony that play out around the dinner table – the Film-maker/Choreogrpahers were Sergio Cruz, Marc Brew, and the dancers were; Hannah deCancho, Oliver Ellis, Stephanie Holt, Frank McDaniels, Jack Mullins and Kim Noble.
  • In the case of Beyond the Surface - a groundbreaking film shot almost entirely underwater - they were Kevin Clifford (Film-maker) and Marie-Louise Flexen (Choreographer) with the same company of dancers.

These films, and others GDance have coproduced with internationally renowned integrated dance company Candoco, are available for dance, arts, disability and community organisations and events. They come with teachers' resource packs for workshops and schools.
