GDance is offering young people from across the county the chance
to join the top inclusive youth dance company in the South West.
Disabled and non-disabled youth dancers are invited to try out for
this fantastic opportunity, which includes a chance to work with prestigious UK
choreographers and to perform at high profile events or in short dance films.
Auditions will be held on Saturday 20 July at City Works in Alfred
Street, Gloucester. The audition fee
(for a 3 hour workshop) is just £5.
11 to 21-year-olds with potential in, and a commitment to,
creative, contemporary dance are encouraged to get their applications in
quickly, as capacity is limited. GDance
is particularly interested in hearing from physically disabled young
people.
Last year’s GDance youth companies made a film, which will be
screened nationally at dance, disability and film festivals; performed at the
National Star College; took part in a workshop blending dance with new media;
and had sessions with guest teachers from the UK contemporary dance sector.
They will also be performing this year at the County Schools Games at
Gloucester Cathedral in June.
The course is designed to improve confidence, fitness and
technique, as well as to give an understanding of working together as equals,
and of the broader dance sector. Company
members also have the opportunity to get a nationally-recognised Arts Award,
and get the support of a mentor to help with their progression and future plans
in dance.
GDance is looking for youth dancers who have a lot of potential –
the auditions are open to all young disabled and non-disabled dancers, whether
previously trained or not, and coming from any dance style background.
