Summer Reading Challenge 2013 – Creepy House Dance tour

This summer sees the first ever dance tour of libraries across the south west with Creepy House Dance, a promenade dance performance inspired by the 2013 Summer Reading Challenge theme ‘Creepy House’.
Creepy House Dance has been created by Second Hand Dance and will be touring to 15 libraries from Gloucester to Bristol, from Monday 5 to Thursday 29 August.

The tour has been made possible thanks to a grant from Arts Council England and the collaboration of ASCEL (Association of Senior Children’s and Education Librarians) and Pavilion Dance South West.

“We’re delighted to be offering the Creepy House Dance programme in 15 libraries across the south west – the first time that it has been done! Last year 76,000 children in the region participated in the Summer Reading Challenge, and by animating the challenge through dance we hope to engage even more 4-11 year olds in the thrill of reading,” explains Zannah Doan, Regional Producer at Pavilion Dance South West

The Summer Reading Challenge http://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ is created and managed by The Reading Agency and this project, which is led by the South West ASCEL, is backed by a strong regional and national partnership. Children will be enabled to gain Discover & Explore Arts Awards as ways of sustaining and increasing engagement with the SRC across the summer holiday period. National research indicates that children completing the challenge maintain and often increase their reading confidence and skills, avoiding the recognised ‘dip’ in reading attainment.

On a dark, dark hill; in a dark, dark town; down a dark, dark street; something is haunting Creepy House.
It’s scaring the residents; and gripping them in fear with disturbing noises, year after year.
An unsolvable mystery, that’ll send shivers down your spine – can you help us crack it, if you have the time?
