Choreographic Lab, to be held at Bristol's Tobacco
Factory Brewery Studio on Sunday 27th October and led by 3rd Stage Dance
Company, is a day for dance educators to take inspiration and practical
strategies on how to get the most from their students' choreography. If you're
new to dance teaching, or just looking for a refresher, you can expect to be
guided through different approaches to teaching choreography that have worked
for those at the chalk-face of choreographic education. It also aims to bring
teacher and professional dancers together.
The idea of Choreographic Lab is not to be dogmatic, or
to export the '3rd Stage Way', but to help those in dance education unlock
their potential as choreographic educators so that in turn they can enthuse and
embolden their charges. The day is designed to be as practical and interactive
as possible, with choreographic workshops and live demonstrations peppered with
opportunities for people to talk, discuss ideas and share experiences. When you
come along though, be prepared to get stuck in.
Two course leaders will run the day; both are educators
as well as choreographers. Lucy Thynne, a local to the Bath area, works in
schools teaching Dance across the secondary age range and regularly offers
guidance to teachers and leaders who are new to the task of creating and
delivering Dance. She takes great care to ensure that her students flourish as
choreographic artists whilst fulfilling exam criteria. Tarrant Robbins, a
Wiltshire dance artist, has worked in schools in Wiltshire, Berkshire and
Hampshire and has also worked as an examiner for both GCSE and A-Level Dance.
Tarrant's years of teaching and examining across a range of exams means that
his students regularly turn out as strong and articulate choreographers.
Those who attend will engage in practical workshops on
'How to create movement from scratch, 'How to develop movement' and 'How to
manipulate movement on a group of dancers'. Some of the dancers of 3rd Stage
will be choreographed on live in order to demonstrate how choreography can be
layered, and more importantly, how students can be coached to do it. The day
will be topped-off by allowing participants to experiment practically with the
days information whilst being guided on how to choreograph in response to a
stimulus.
ChoreoLab will be held in Bristol at the Tobacco
Factory's Brewery Studio on Sunday 27th October. In order to book a place
