VIA Community Dance Company, managed by Gloucester based arts
charity GDance, is riding high after their performance at Gloucester Carnival
in July.
The company of dancers, who meet weekly at
Gloucester’s Milestone School, made up a vibrant community cast in GDance’s
professional production All Fall Down, which also involved a
dancing horse!
On October 10, VIA will join 200 other dancers and
London-based company Avant Garde as part of a Flashmob dance at Gloucester’s
Fanzone in The Docks.
VIA brings disabled and non-disabled dancers
together, who range from age 8 to 40+, to create and participate in high
profile performances.
Past accolades have included first prize at
Cheltenham Performing Arts Festival (in 2014 and ’15!) and performing as part
of the Olympic Torch celebration event at Cheltenham Racecourse in 2012.
The opportunities enjoyed by VIA have had a huge
impact on its members. Volunteer
Kellie Peattie said:
“GDance has changed my life
and improved my confidence through gaining new dance skills and socialising
with dancers with different needs.”
In order to continue this valued opportunity to
dance at so many public celebrations, VIA community dance company needs support.
Donations can be made to GDance’s 20th
Anniversary Appeal – visit www.gdance.co.uk or, to find out more about the Appeal or about VIA, contact
Charlotte Newman (charlotte@gdance.co.uk).
