GDance wins funding from Arts Council England and Big Lottery

Gloucestershire Dance has received a massive vote of confidence with two grants which will help to secure its future.

Arts Council England has awarded the dance production company £98,000 over the next eighteen months.  The money will be help the Gloucester-based charity to give disadvantaged people in and around Gloucester access to dance, and enable creation of a new production showcasing the talents of professional disabled and non-disabled performers on Gloucester Carnival day in 2015.

Another £9,791 comes from the Big Lottery Fund for ‘Arts Inc’ holiday clubs bringing together disabled and non-disabled children, and enabling GDance and partners in the Carnival Arts Partnership to help 3 local community groups prepare for the parade in July 2014.

GDance, based in Colwell Road, is nationally renowned for its work with dance and disability.

Its inclusive productions, such as Stuck in the Mud performed at the National Trust’s Hidcote garden and at Blackfriars Priory in Gloucester last year, won widespread acclaim.
GDance Director Cath Wilkins said that support from organisations such as the Arts Council is essential if the charity is to survive.

“Funding is increasingly tight in a highly competitive arts world. These two new grants speak volumes about the quality of work which GDance produces.

“They give us breathing space, and the confidence to continue leading the way nationally with inclusive dance practice of the highest quality.”
