TV’s
Dr Dawn Harper backs GDance
anniversary appeal
TV star Dr Dawn Harper has given her backing to a fundraising
appeal by Gloucestershire Dance .
The star of
Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies is a dance fan and recently took part in the Star College ’s
Strictly Star show in Cheltenham . She lives in
the Cotswolds.
"I'm
delighted to support the GDance 20th Anniversary Appeal,” she said.
“Dancing
is a great way to exercise, make new friends and get creative. Disabled
people should be able to enjoy all those benefits – but, without charities like
GDance, it can be much harder for them to take part.
“I
hope you will join me in supporting this appeal, so that everyone in
Gloucestershire has the chance to dance."
GDance was set
up in 1995 and is renowned for its groundbreaking work with disabled and
disadvantaged dancers and choreographers.
It has been
the dance launchpad for dozens of people who face disabling barriers, and has
won a host of accolades for its productions, dance films and training.
GDance’s
latest production, Stuck in the Mud,
was seen by almost 3,000 people when it was performed at Hidcote Manor Garden
in the Cotswolds and at Blackfriars Priory in Gloucester then went on tour in
Wales.
The charity’s
dance films have been chosen to feature in film, arts and disability festivals
all over the world – from Ohio to Moscow . The team, based at Colwell Arts, Derby Road , Gloucester ,
run more than 1,000 dance sessions per year.
The 20th
anniversary appeal is aimed as securing GDance’s future in an increasingly
tough funding climate.
Director Cath
Wilkins said: “It’s great to have Dr Dawn ’s
backing. GDance has gone from strength to strength since 1995, establishing a
national reputation for our inclusive work.
“Dance has proven
ability to transform lives, especially for people who live with emotional or
physical challenges.”
