Andy woods our new Temporary General Manager allows us an insight to his first day at GDance Productions.
GDance Productions is an incredible organisation. I have known it since the Gloucestershire
Dance days, but starting work as its Temporary General Manager back at the
beginning of September was a real eye opener.
Parking my bike at the back of the Colwell Centre, the building GDance Productions
shares with the County’s music service, I ambled in to find its committed team already
beavering away planning and delivering a huge programme of activity with local,
regional, national and even international ramifications for the future of
dance.
Not only does GDance Productions strive to ensure the participation of
disabled people in all its work – from its workshops to its huge outdoor
performances – it also employs disabled artists as performers and trainers to
inspire and train a new generation of professional dancers for whom true
integration becomes an ever closer reality. I left work reeling that first day,
and am still coming to terms with the sheer range and ramifications of the work
GDance delivers and the commitment of its small core team. As always in the
arts, though, the challenges ahead are huge.
This is not going to be an easy ride...
